It feels so good that spring has finally made an appearance in Seattle! It’s this time of year when the morning light just streams through our windows and the cherry blossoms flutter through the air and our desks are piled wonderfully high with seed packets, client designs, and inspiration. Around here springtime also calls for gatherings.
It’s a favorite time of year to open up the windows, get to planting, and welcome our friends and family over for brunch or outdoors for an afternoon of grilling.
There are three important tips that we abide by when throwing celebrations for our clients, and they spill over to our home entertaining as well:
1. welcome your guests! It sounds like a simple notion, but as a host or hostess it’s easy to get caught up in the kitchen prepping away. To make sure you’re able to open your door and greet your guests with a hug and a beverage (and to take their coats), start the earlier part of your gathering off with pre-assembled hors d’ oeuvres or crudites, fruit, and meats and cheeses – items you can arrange prior to guest arrival.
2. have a self-serve station where guests can help themselves with fresh fruits and juices, herbs and champagne or other beverages. This not only creates interaction, but it alleviates you having to mix up individual cocktails all day!
3. pre-set the table and dress up place settings with clippings fresh from the garden. Tie napkins with torn strips of fabric and create a table runner out of greenery. These tiny details will delight your guests and they’re simple to create!
