With many of our couples getting married this summer, we are in the stages of their menu and bar planning, which means taste-testing, sharing our knowledge and recommendations, and encouraging them to think creatively so that their menu and bar is the perfect balance of everything they love. A well-thought out bar can be such a treat at a wedding and it needn’t be over-the-top or too elaborate if that’s not your style. Here are a few of our top priorities to consider to help you compliment your wedding bar:
Don’t forget about printed matter. Custom cocktail napkins are rather inexpensive, yet are a charming touch that your guests will notice. Think about printing a favorite saying, your wedding monogram, or even your alma mater logo to napkins! And having a bar menu done in calligraphy or beautiful print will not only help your guests order drinks, but they look lovely. Stir sticks are also a great idea and add that pop of fun!
Serve select favorites. Unless you are providing a fully stocked bar, make sure that your select favorites offer something for everyone. A vodka, light rum, gin, and whiskey, when paired with assorted mixers, should do the trick in offering something for everyone. Of course, red and white wine (we recommend a Pinot Noir and Merlot and a Chardonnay at the least) and bubbly are also excellent to offer.
Offer non-alcoholic beverage aplenty. Create a self-serve station for guests who just want to whet their whistle with water or a punch. Dress us these drinks so they feel just as special as a cocktail. Herbs like rosemary and mint taste delicious in teas or lemonades, and citrus is always tasty in plain old water.
Create a focal point. We’ll admit it! We’re suckers for a champagne. It doesn’t matter if it’s intended for 300 guests or 20, a champagne tower lends such nostalgia and a classically elegant feeling at a wedding, and it makes for such a great focal point (ahem, a great photo opp!). Your focal point could also be a cool ice sculpture, a wine tasting station, beer flights, or a lemonade stand!
