Craft Time: Spooky Metallic Painted Apples
Ooh, Halloween is inching nearer and our minds are reeling with the tricks and treats that await! We’ll be spending the day dressing up windows at Trophy Cupcakes in Seattle and Bellevue for the month of November {we can’t wait to reveal our festive designs} and ogling at the costumes and creativity galore. Now….what shall we dress ourselves as?
In case you’re looking for that last bit of panache to add to your Halloween decor, we’ve got a delightfully spooky DIY: metallic painted apples. They’re a bit reminiscent of the story of Snow White……with a mysterious bit of flair. Here’s what you’ll need:

*make sure your paint is relatively thick so it will stick nicely to the apples
Step 1. skewer your dowel into the core of the apple from the bottom
Step 2. with gloves on dip the apple about halfway into your metallic paint
Step 3: hold the apple still for about 30 seconds so the paint won’t drip immediately. Then slowly turn it right-side up and stick the dowel into your styrofoam platform. The paint will start dripping.
Step 4: let the paint dry entirely and, if you want a crackling effect, set out in the cold overnight. Use as decor on a mantel or table top – just make sure the kiddos don’t try to eat them!
