Make It: Whimsical Polka Dotted Kraft Paper
Oh, friends. How was your nearly-springtime weekend? Did you have a wonderful St. Patrick’s Day or get out in the garden to prep for bulbs? Ours was quite nice. We whipped up a creamy peppered potato and frizzled leek soup {we’ll be sharing this recipe this week!} and we managed to relax amidst some writing and client meetings. It was positively stormy on the coast but it was so welcomed. You know, one of those hunker down and watch movies kind of weekend as the rain pounds down in buckets and the wind whips through the trees?
Alas, the sunshine is supposed to return this week, which we’re thrilled about. We’re prepping for a client S’mores beach bonfire followed by a wedding the next day on the sand, so sunshine and warmer temperatures are welcomed! Speaking of sunshine, is anyone else as excited as we are to enter into spring? You know we love to share our DIY entertaining ideas and today’s project is no exception. It’s quite fun, if we do say so ourselves!
For Valley & Co.’s Whimsical Polka Dotted Kraft Paper you’ll need: Kraft paper {we buy in rolls from Home Depot - it has so many uses} | wine corks | paint | scissors | glue – if you’re making napkin banks
Step 1: roll out your paper in a long sheet {you can trim later for place mats, gift wrap, or our napkin bands} and dip the tip of the wine cork in paint. Start dotting along the paper, leaving room for another color or two.
Twist as you go so the dots are nice and full.
Step 2: let the paint dry and fill in any empty spots. Take a paper cutter and trim the paper to size for whatever you’re using it for. If you’re making our napkin bands trim to 3″ thick x 12″ long.
Step 4: take the band and wrap around a bistro towel {they make the best napkins}
Step 5: secure the ends of the band with glue and hold in place until the glue dries
Easy peasy, and so sweet, isn’t it? We just can’t get enough of this project. You can use assorted colors for picnics, birthday bashes and luncheons and make long table runners, place mats and wrapping paper.
