Make It: Valentine’s Cards

My, oh my {for our Seattle readers perhaps that reminds you of Dave Niehaus and his Mariners announcing…oh, a sign that spring is on its way!}….how is it nearly February and Valentine’s Day? Each year we prepare a number of handmade Valentine’s cards that we sent out to our grandparents and parents as we know they appreciate the special touch. Whether they’re simple and just embellished with glittering embossing or doilies or perhaps more ornate with ribbed paper, gold leafing, and several layers, the point is that we made them with care. This year our Valentine’s Day cards are inspired by simplicity and spring.

To make your own you’ll need: 8″ doilies | a LOVE stamp | green ink | baker’s twine | white cards and envelopes | scissors | tacky glue
Saturate your stamp with green ink and test it on paper before you stamp.
Stamp in the bottom center of the doily and press down hard.
Look fresh and romantic, doesn’t it? The contrast of a modern stamp against a Victorian-inspired lacy doily is stunning.
On the top of the card {along the fold} lay out a long thin bead of tacky glue.
Take the center of your doily and lay it along the bead of glue creating a flap. Fold the doily over and crease it so that it adheres to the glue.
Take your scissors and snip the ends of the doily so that it will slip into the envelope.
Write a note on the inside of the card before you close it up. Take baker’s twine and wrap around and around the card sealing it.
Tie with a knot and slide into its envelope!
Quite clean and fresh, isn’t it? We love the play on more traditional Valentine’s Day doilies with something that’s unexpected and more modern.

So cute and I love the lime green colour that keeps them from being too Valentine-sy!:)

Really cute idea for Valentine’s! I like that it’s not the traditional red and pink. Like you said, really fresh & modern.
