Make It: Striped Place Mats
Howdy, sweet readers! How was your weekend? Hopefully filled with some goodness and fun! Our was wonderful – yesterday was spent immersed in all sorts of written goodness: blogs, books, and magazines. All for the sake of relaxation {okay, and for a little inspiration, too!}. We’re looking forward to a most productive week and to the relaunch of our Weddings blog. Can’t wait to share!
Before we kick off another excellent week on Lifestyle we want to introduce you to a very talented photographer and wonderful friend, Lisa G. Lisa’s been the photographer capturing our DIY projects and inspirational work you’ve seen on the blog the last week or so and she’s captured our designs for San Diego Magazine as well. She has quite the eye so let’s give her some cheer! Without further adieu….
Fun, isn’t she? We get a kick out of our shoots with her! Okay, now onto today’s simple project. For easy peasy striped place mats you’ll need: painter’s tape | fabric paint | fabric place mats | a sponge brush
Pre-wash place mats and let dry. Lay the tape along your place mat so you form striped about 1/3 of the way across – or go all out!
Paint a thick coat of fabric paint onto the exposed fabric. Let dry and place another coat on.
Let the mat cure for a few hours before gently pulling the tape off.
Done. Simple, as promised!
Think about the possibilities here. For about $2 a place mat you can really dress up a holiday party, a bridal shower or wedding, or a fun birthday party with pops of color, horizontal stripes, checks, or even a Chevron motif.

So. What do you think? Is this a project you’d like to give a whirl? What do you think about our stripe frenzy? Next month we’ll be mixing it up and going with another them for our projects…

Loving all of your creative DIY’s! You make it look so easy!
Thanks a bunch! So glad to hear it!
I love stripes. My daughter saw this on my computer and was very intrigued. She now wants to paint her own place mats
The color and pattern possibilities for this are endless
We love that, Brenda. It would be such a fun project for her – think those reds and purples and pinks perfect for Valentine’s Day, too!
Would love to try it out in a chevron pattern! Cute idea!
Thank you and yes! Chevron would be awesome. If you try it out we’d love to see – send us a snapshot!
love this easy idea! I think I’ll use it for a table runner, too!
Thanks so much, Laura! That’s a fun idea – a long runner with all sorts of colored stripes…
