Heirloom Brooches with Aleah

My grandma uses the word marvelous so eloquently and freely and it makes me smile. I appreciate everything she does. So sweet and wonderful. Just before Christmas a box arrived to our home. It was filled with beautiful Santas that my grandma has had for years and years. She’d gifted them to me as I’d been coveting them for as long as I can remember. When I was about 6 or 7 I recall seeing the 10″ long skinny Santa face, with its whimsical grin and curling beard, hanging on the wall in her kitchen staring down at me with a smile. What a treat! Some are glittered, some are hand-painted. Some wooden, but all special in their own way.
I also have a lovely collection of beautiful glittering brooches given to my by my grandma a few years ago. At each chance I have I use these heirloom pieces in event design and our photo shoots. My grandma gets a kick out of seeing pieces that are special either online or in a magazine and it makes me happy.
If you have heirloom brooches why not put them to use? Dress up an ordinary dinner party {or dinner for two} or a luncheon with beautiful gems and ornate detailed pins. Or if you don’t have a collection of your own visit some antique shops and collect a bunch. You can use them in so many ways, including as sweet take-home gifts for your guests.
Go simple with plain white napkins that dazzle when dresses up with a beautiful brooch.

You’ll need: brown velvet ribbon {about 10″ for each napkin} | brooches or pins | white bistro napkins

Cut your ribbon to 10″ lengths with the ends at an angle. Secure the pins closed and loop the back of the pin through the ribbon. Tie loosely around a bistro napkin laying the brooch on top.

Don’t they look so charming displayed like this? Do you have heirloom items that are special to you?

what a great way to display the brooches and what a sweet grandmother to gift you her Santa collection. I have my grandmother’s nativity set and put it out each year. But, this holiday season was bittersweet as it was the first one without my Gram here so it was extra special setting it up. My daughter even placed the figurines in the stable. It’s always a wonderful thing to have our families heirlooms where they can be displayed and cherished.
