Holiday DIY: Icy Snowball Ornaments

Yes! Christmas is nearing closer and we’re dying to dish out some of our handmade holiday gifts. While we can’t share too many secrets now we’ll be snapping pictures to share post-holiday. We’re really enjoying handcrafting little gifts as each one will be so special. Are you hand making any gifts this year?

We recently posted our glittering silver ornaments , our sentimental sea glass ornaments, and our snow globe ornaments as sweet holiday gifts that can be tailored to any recipient: dress one up with red glitter, fill one with sand or moss, and one with a teeny reindeer. Today’s projects is similar in process but the effect is so different. The ornaments look like icy snowballs that glitter and shine under the lights of a Christmas tree and look life-like.

You’ll need: small glass {or shatter-proof} ornaments from Michael’s or a local craft store | black satin ribbon | glue | a foam brush | either epsom salt or opaque white glitter {the glitter sticks easier}

Brush a heavy coat of glue on a quarter of the ornament and roll in the sprinkles {or salt}. Fill in any gaps with your fingertips or by sprinkling. Repeat with the other quarters.

Let dry and repeat with drops of glue topped glitter for an icicle effect once or twice. If you drop glue on the top of the ornament and let it glide down the side and sprinkle it will resemble an icy snowball that’s melting – so whimsical!

Loop your satin ribbon {cut to 8″} through the metal loop and again through itself and pull through so it’s secure. That’s it! Delightfully sweet and magical icy snowball ornaments perfect for hostess gifts, atop gifts, or on your tree!

So will you be giving any of our ornament ideas a whirl? We’re keeping the ideas coming with fresh posts and content – let us know if there’s anything you’d love to see in our upcoming shoots and posts! We really love to hear from our friends and readers!

Cheers!

    Love this idea! I fill my Christmas globes with flower seeds to give as gifts. This is going to make them so much more presentable. Thanks!
