Make it at Home: Grown-Up Sundae Bar

We spent the weekend a little {actually, a lot} soggy in San Diego. On Friday we had a spectacular wedding that was made possible by our super A-team {the weather report: near-hurricane force winds and record-setting rain on the coast!} and our couple, who is really amazing. They reminded us all that no matter what the setting, the weather, or the situation, being together and spending the rest of their lives together is what matters. Needless to say, the ceremony only began 5 minutes off schedule {despite a total change in ceremony location} and the backdrop was beautiful: a fresh sky with clearing rain clouds and not one, but two rainbows! The weather was fantastic on Saturday, and went back to rain and gray skies on Sunday. But we’re embracing it!
How was your weekend? Did you entertain? As we jump into another week of event and holiday party planning we wanted to share our adaptation of an ice cream social for winter bashes: our Grown-Up Sundae Bar, complete with whiskey butterscotch sauce! Ice cream can be the perfect cold weather treat if you provide the right toppings.
Grown-Up Sundae Bar
You’ll need: vintage spoons | crushed vanilla bean ice cream | ice cream bowls | whiskey butterscotch sauce | chocolate sauce | Belgian waffle wafers | blackberries | toasted peanuts
To make the whiskey butterscotch sauce take 2 oz. of whiskey and simmer in 4 oz. of butterscotch for 15 minutes. Do not let bubble or burn. A simmer will meld the ingredients.
Assemble your bar by putting single ingredients in containers and allowing your guests to dish up as they wish. It’s as simple as that!
